Girasoles Project III – Casa de Acogida
Established in April 1996, the ‘Casa de Acogida’ houses 25 young Dominican boys ranging in ages between 9 and 17 years old. These boys are from extreme poor origins and have been abandoned by their families to fend for themselves in the streets of the city, with all the dire consequences involved in complex situations like these.
Some of the boys have been rescued from addictive habits and others from dangerous company and environment. Boys are in the home by free will, and are provided with education in different schools throughout the neighborhood as well as learning technical tasks.
With much effort, through the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education a Psychologist has been assigned to the school and attends on a regular basis to the boys in need; major emphasis is made in restoring the boys’ emotional and spiritual well being, as well as giving them a sense of family and belonging so that they can mature into productive, honest and hard working young men.
The home exists and subsists only from donations and is in need of the most basic necessities. Any type of donation is gratefully received and heartfelt and will be put to very good use. As with our other projects, if you so prefer, the following is a guideline for donations:
- US$ 27.00 will provide nutritious meals for a month to 1 boy.
- US$ 330.00 will provide nutritious meals for a month for the home.
Or you can donate any amount that is most suitable to your budget. It will be gladly allocated to cover many of the different needs of the home.
The Girasoles Foundation is a 501(c)(3) approved charity organization. Donations are tax deductible.
