Girasoles Project IV – Hogar de Ancianos “Padre Abreu”
The Hogar de Ancianos Padre Abreu is located in La Romana on the south east coast of the Dominican Republic and 1 ½ hour away from the capital, Santo Domingo.
The home provides comfort, medical assistance and care to 55 elderly Dominican women and men from very poor origins that have no family or have been left behind. These seniors range in age and are in no capacity to fend for themselves.
In a very modest yet very clean environment, these seniors are lovingly cared for by a team of 14 dedicated persons, whose only concern is to make sure that they are as comfortable as they can be at the end of their lives.
Most of the income for the home comes from a stipend received from the local government, which is not sufficient to cover the necessities in the home. At present time, some of the most pressing needs are:
- Skin hydrating cream
- Medium and small towels
- Adult diapers
- Bed linens
- Tooth paste
- Nutritional shakes
- House dresses for women
- Undershirts / short sleeve shirts for men
- Slippers for women and men
- Moist toilette disposable towels
Or you can donate any monetary amount that is most suitable to your budget. It will be gladly allocated to purchase and cover many of the necessities of the home.
The Girasoles Foundation is a 501(c)(3) approved charity organization. Donations are tax deductible.
